Purpose
The NATO Codification System covered by STANAGs 3150 and 3151 on the supply classification and identification of items of supply stipulates that the signatories will use common terminology for logistics purposes. 1
The system is designed to achieve maximum effectiveness in national and international logistic support, to facilitate data management in the area of materiel and to identify items that appear to be different but meet the same requirement. It thereby becomes possible to reduce supplies (equipment, assemblies, components and spare parts) and to keep the required quantity of stocks under control.
