This specification2 covers manganese- vanadium steel plates in two high tensile strength ranges, designated grade A and grade B, intended particularly for fusion welding: for use in locomotive boiler shells, boilers for stationary service, and other pressure vessels. The maximum thickness of plates to be specified under this specification shall be 4 in. Welding technique is of fundamental importance and it is presupposed that welding will be in accordance with approved methods.
