scope:
This part of ISO 3691 applies to the following types of self propelled industrial trucks: a) industrial counterbalanced trucks (see 3.1.3.1.1 of ISO 5053:1987) ; b) reach trucks with retractable mast or retractable fork arm carriage (see 3.1.3.1.2 of ISO 5053:1987); c) straddle trucks (see 3.1.3.1.3 of ISO 5053:1987); d) pallet-stacking trucks (see 3.1.3.1.4 of ISO 5053:1987); e) high lift platform trucks (see 3.1.3.1.5 of ISO 5053:1987); f) trucks with elevating operator position up to 1 200 mm (see 3.1.3.1.6 of ISO 5053:1987); g) side-loading trucks (one side only) (see 3.1.3.1.7 of ISO 5053:1987); h) lateral stacking trucks (both sides) (see 3.1.3.1.9 of ISO 5053:1987) and lateral and front stacking truck (see 3.1.3.1.10 of ISO 5053:1987); i) pallet trucks (see 3.1.3.2.1 of ISO 5053:1987); j) bi-directional (see 3.6.1.1 of ISO 5053:1987) and multidirectional trucks (see 3.6.1.2 of ISO 5053:1987); k) tractors with a drawbar pull up to and including 20 000 N (see 3.1.2.1 of ISO 5053:1987); l) industrial trucks powered by battery, diesel, gasoline, or LPG; m) rough terrain counterbalanced trucks (see 3.1.3.1.8 of ISO 5053:1987). This part of ISO 3691 does not cover those requirements to reduce hazards which may occur: a) during construction; b) when handling suspended loads which may swing freely; c) when using trucks on public roads; d) when operating in potentially explosive atmospheres; e) when using trucks in very narrow aisles with clearance of less than 500 mm to the racks f) from non-ergonomic body attitude when driving sit-on trucks load trailing; g) During travelling with unladen trucks with rated capacity of more than 10 000kg due to insufficient visibility; h) Due to overload. In this International Standard, fork arms, load platforms and integrated attachments are considered to be parts of the industrial truck. Attachments mounted on the load carrier or on the fork arms which are removable by the user are not considered to be part of the industrial truck. For attachments the appropriate clauses of this standard are applicable. For trucks with elevating operator position of more than 1 200 mm and/or trucks designed to travel with elevated load of more than 1 200 mm the requirements of ISO 3691-3 apply additionally. Where industrial trucks are required to operate in severe conditions (e.g. in extreme climates, in freezer applications) special precautions may be necessary. These are not covered by this standard. This part of ISO 3691 deals with safety requirements to avoid or minimise the hazard and hazardous situations listed in clause 4 which can arise during the operation in the area of use for which it is designed and maintenance of trucks in accordance with the specifications and instruction given by the manufacturer. NOTE ISO 3691-3 does not apply to counterbalanced fork lift trucks or trucks intended for container handling. All regional requirements for this International Standard can be found, and used in conjunction with, ISO/TS 3691-7 requirements for Europe and ISO/TS 3691-8 for requirements outside Europe.
