This guideline provides recommended product marking with machine-readable symbols for products used by telecommunications companies. It covers both labels and direct marking of products. The guideline is based on the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) Product Marking Standard CEA-802 which includes testing procedures for label adhesive characteristics and mark durability. This guideline references these procedures.

Intended applications include, but are not limited to, support of systems that automate the control of products during the processes of production, inventory, distribution, field service, and repair.
