PREFACE

Gas Utilization is the eleventh and final book in the Gas Engineering and Operating Practices (GEOP) series. The series comprises six volumes, each consisting of from one to four books in the operations areas of supply, transmission, distribution, measurement, utilization, and technical services.

This book covers domestic and commercial gas utilization, with subjects varying from Alternate Energy Comparisons to House Piping to gas Burner Design. In some of the chapters, extensive fundamental material is used from the National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1. The reader is cautioned to always reference a current edition of the National Fuel Gas Code in conjunction with this book in order to have the latest code information. The reader should also be aware that some local codes may vary from the national codes and need to be taken into consideration. A flyer pertaining to the National Fuel Gas Code may be found inside the back cover of this manual.

Gas Utilization also uses various tables and other material from ASHRAE, The Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration Institute (ARI), and from the Gas Appliance Manufacturers Association (GAMA); we appreciate their giving us permission to use this material. Readers owe a special debt of gratitude to Anne C. Roess and her colleagues of the A.G.A. Library Services Committee who indexed the book.

Now that the GEOP series has been completed, the Task Group feels very strongly that all of the books should be continually reviewed and updated as necessary in order to provide a current, authoritative, easy to understand source of information covering the complete gas industry.
