scope:
This standard provides the testing requirements for internetwork connections employing Common Channel Signalling (CCS) based on Signalling System No. 7 (SS7) protocol used in North America. The internetwork connection may be either within or between North American countries. This standard provides a list of test scripts for testing the compatibility between the interconnecting networks for Message Transfer Part (MTP), level 2 and level 3, of the SS7 protocol. MTP level 1 tests are not included since they are transmission tests and are not related to the SS7 protocol. This standard references material in T1 SS7 protocol standards. (See section 2.)
Purpose
The purpose of this document is to provide a recommended set of CCS 7 Interconnection Compatibility tests.
Application
The purpose of this standard is to ensure the compatibility of Signalling Points (SPs) used for interconnecting SS7 networks in North America. It is understood that prior to performing these tests, service providers have performed the appropriate transmission tests on their respective signalling links.
The interconnecting service providers may have additional MTP level 2 and level 3 tests they wish to perform which are outside of this standard. In this case, such tests would be subject to a bilateral agreement.
There is a potential for network interruption during the application of certain MTP level 2 and 3 tests. Care should be taken to identify tests that may cause a network interruption prior to performing them.
