What this book is for
This book details instructions for:
• switching traction current on and off
• operating Short Circuiting Devices (SCDs) and Current Rail Indicator Devices (CRIDs)
• detecting earth faults and dealing with loss of high voltage supply.
It also details instructions for:
• switching traction current on safely at the start of Traffic Hours and off at the end of Traffic Hours
• switching traction current on and off when taking possessions
• operating section, isolating, changeover and coupling switches to change the management of traction current
• detecting and dealing with Direct Current (DC) traction earth faults
• undertaking planned power supply testing, reconfiguration and maintenance.
It also contains instructions for switching traction current off due to an incident or emergency, and switching traction current back on again once the incident or emergency is over:
• on running lines, and
• in depots.
