This Recommendation is part of a series of Recommendations that define the third generation of high-speed data-over-cable systems. The third-generation transmission systems introduce a number of new features that build upon what was present in previous Recommendations [ITU-T J.112] and [ITU-T J.122]. This Recommendation includes key new features for the MAC and Upper Layer Protocols Interface, and defines the MAC layer protocols as well as requirements for upper layer protocols (e.g., IP, DHCP, etc.).

Please see [ITU-T J.222.1] for the background and overview of the DOCSIS 3 family of Recommendations.

NOTE - The structure and content of this Recommendation have been organized for ease of use by those familiar with the original source material; as such, the usual style of ITU-T recommendations has not been applied.
