NFPA 804
Standard for Fire Protection for Advanced Light Water Reactor Electric Generating Plants
| Organization: | NFPA |
| Publication Date: | 1 January 2010 |
| Status: | inactive |
| Page Count: | 57 |
scope:
This standard applies only to advanced light water reactor electric generating plants and provides minimum fire protection requirements to ensure safe shutdown of the reactor, minimize the release of radioactive materials to the environment, provide safety to life of on-site personnel, limit property damage, and protect continuity of plant operation. The fire protection is based on the principle of defense-in-depth. For plants that have adopted a risk-informed, performancebased approach to fire protection, subsequent changes to the fire protection program shall be made in accordance with NFPA 806, Performance-Based Standard for Fire Protection for Advanced Nuclear Reactor Electric Generating Plants Change Process.
Purpose.
This standard is prepared for use by and guidance of those charged with the design, construction, operation, and regulation of advanced light water reactor electric generating plants.
This standard covers those requirements essential to ensure that the consequences of fire will have minimum impact on the safety of the public and on-site personnel, the physical integrity of plant components, and the continuity of plant operations.
