scope:
This standard applies only to advanced light water reactor electric generating plants and provides minimum fire protection requirements to ensure safe shutdown of the reactor, minimize the release of radioactive materials to the environment, provide safety to life of on-site personnel, limit property damage, and protect continuity of plant operation. The fire protection is based on the principle of defense in depth.
Purpose.
This standard is prepared for the use and guidance of those charged with the design, construction, operation, and regulation of advanced light water reactor electric generating plants.
This standard covers those requirements essential to ensure that the consequences of fire will have minimum impact on the safety of the public and on-site personnel, the physical integrity of plant components, and the continuity of plant operations.
