This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies characteristics of flat head bolts made of steel (hereafter referred to as "steel bolts"), stainless steel (hereafter referred to as "stainless steel bolts") and brass (hereafter referred to as "brass bolts") for general use.

In addition, steel bolts, stainless steel bolts and brass bolts are generically referred to as merely "bolts".
