This document, together with 2-01001-002 which details specific test requirements, current legislation and specific Guidance Notes in Section 3.2. It applies to the locations which include sub-surface stations, tunnels, certain depots and surface stations.
As additional guidance on specific items and materials is progressively incorporated into Section 3.2 of this Manual of Good Practice, the new entry is added to the Contents and the Manual is issued as an up-dated version.
This issue of this manual replaces G-085A2.
Purpose
The purpose of this Manual of Good Practice is to detail the background to London Underground's philosophy behind the use and controls of flammable and specific items and materials in underground locations (including rolling stock). This Code of Practice of Materials Used in the Underground, details the underlying risk-based approach to materials fire safety which remains constant, whilst the specific tests and requirements in 1-085 may change when National and European Standards are updated.
