|Publication Date:||1 September 2013|
This document should be read in conjunction with standard 1-085, which details specific test requirements, together with current legislation and the specific Guidance Notes in Section 3.2. It applies to the locations defined in that Standard, which includes sub-surface stations, tunnels, certain depot locations and some surface stations.
As additional guidance on specific items and materials is progressively incorporated into Section 3.2 of this Manual of Good Practice, the new entry is added to the Contents and the Manual is issued as an up-dated version.
The purpose of this Manual of Good Practice is to detail the background to London Underground's philosophy behind the use and controls of flammable and specific items and materials in underground locations (including rolling stock). This Code of Practice of Materials Used in the Underground, details the underlying risk-based approach to materials fire safety which remains constant, whilst the specific tests and requirements in 1-085 may change when National and European Standards are updated.
