scope:
This standard applies to Gravity Drainage System assets owned by LU.
This Standard defines the responsibilities involved during the life cycle of the assets and sets out the requirements for:
a) Inception and design;
b) Construction, installation, testing and commissioning;
c) Inspection;
d) Analytical assessment;
e) Condition assessment;
f) Maintenance;
g) Upgrading and Renewal;
h) Decommissioning;
j) Evidence of compliance;
This standard replaces 1-052 A2.
Purpose
The purpose of this Standard is to define the life cycle requirements for Gravity Drainage System assets. These assets comprise:
a) Track and off track drainage systems;
I) Gravity pipes - Non Brick;
II) Gravity pipes - Brick;
III) Venting pipes;
IV) Catchpits;
V) Manholes;
VI) Soakaways (Non Sub surface railway stations areas only);
VII) Flow control device;
VIII) Storage tanks;
IX) Channels;
X) Syphons;
XI) Gratings;
XII) Pipe crossings up to 600 mm nominal bore;
XIII) Open ditches (Non Sub surface railway stations areas only);
XIV) Screens (Non Sub surface railway stations areas only);
XV) Oil interceptors;
XVI) Sumps;
XVII) Interstices between the pipe bedding;
XVIII) Trench backfill.
b) Station drainage systems;
I) Gravity pipes (including those carrying grey and/or foul waste from sanitary ware);
II) Venting pipes;
III) Manholes;
IV) Inspection chambers;
V) Channels;
VI) Gullies;
VII) Gratings;
VIII) Grease traps;
IX) Oil interceptors;
X) Drip trays;
XI) Sumps;
XII) Flow control devices;
This standard does not cover building drainage, sanitary ware, roof drainage, guttering or down pipes. These are dealt with in LU Standards 1-068.
Requirements for Pumping Systems are given in LU Standard 1-056.
In defining requirements specifically applicable to Gravity Drainage System assets, this Standard complements LU Standard 1-050 that defines mandatory requirements generally applicable to all Civil Engineering assets including the Gravity Drainage System assets.
A supporting Manual of Good Practice G-052 gives guidance and historical information specific to LU Gravity Drainage System assets.
