MODUK - DEF STAN 01-2

Guide to Engineering Alloys Used in Naval Service: Data Sheets (12.69)

inactive, Most Current
Organization: MODUK
Publication Date: 1 January 1969
Status: inactive
Page Count: 247
scope:

INTRODUCTION

a. The purpose of this Defence Standard is to make generally available the physical, mechanical, corrosion, and other properties of engineering alloys which may be considered for corrosion resistant duties under marine conditions. It has been prepared by the Central Dockyard Laboratory for the Navy Department Committee for the Prevention of Corrosion and Fouling.

b. This Defence Standard is sponsored by the Navy Department of the Ministry of Defence. It provides information, in the form of data sheets, intended primarily for the use of designers, engineers, and draughtsmen, and it is hoped that it will assist design studies and reduce recurrent service failures.

c. Corrosion resistance of alloys is often insufficiently understood by users, and it has seemed desirable to comment in greater length on the various ways in which corrosion damage becomes evident in service, together with the relevant factors controlling such damage.

d. It is emphasized that the data are for guidance only and they give typical properties which may be expected from an alloy. Maximum value will only be obtained from these data sheets if all materials on drawings are related to an individual specification and not merely referred to by name.

e. Metrication of the units in this document will be considered at the next revision.
