scope:
This standard covers the minimum requirements for reciprocating compressors used in refinery services handling air or gas, but excludes portable air compressors, compressors with single-acting trunk-type (or auto-motive-type) pistons (a trunk-type piston is one in which the piston also serves as the crosshead), and standards utility air compressors of 500 hp or less with not more than 125 psig discharge pressure. Lubricated and nonlubricated compressor cylinders are covered. The standard covers requirements for compressor drivers, including internal-combustion engines (integral or separate), motors, steam turbines, and direct-acting steam engines. It also includes related lubricating oil systems, controls, instrumentation, after-coolers, after coolers, and other auxiliary equipment.
