This standard covers the minimum requirements for reciprocating compressors used in refinery services handling air or gas but excludes portable air compressors, compressors with single-acting trunk-type (automotive-type) pistons that also serve as crossheads, and non-water cooled utility or instrument air compressors that discharge at 125 pounds per square inch gage (psig) or below. Lubricated and nonlubricated compressor cylinders are covered. The standard covers requirements for compressor drivers, including internal combustion engines (integral or separate), motors, steam turbines, reducing gears, and integral steam engines. It also includes related lubricating systems, controls, instrumentation, intercoolers, aftercoolers, pul~ation suppression devices, and other auxiliary equipment.
