This part of the Def Stan provides guidance information on the implementation of various sections of Part 1. Guidance is organized under the same general headings as used in Part 1 of this Def Stan in order to provide a simple method of associating text and guidance. Supplementary Annexes are also included to present associated topics in more depth. Direct Clause-to-Clause mapping has not been used as it would lead to a fragmented guidance document.

This Def Stan is applicable to Combat Systems and Equipments within a single Surface Ship or Submarine environment and is intended for intra-ship digital data communications between devices, equipments, sub-systems or systems which contain a data processing capability, for example a micro- processor with firmware.
