This standard is applicable for measurement of fiber optic components and products for image and data transmission (distances up to 100 m) as well as for transmission of light and optical radiation in the near infrared and ultraviolet spectral range.

The standard is not applicable for fiber optic components and products, intended for telecommunication and data transmission over distances > 100 m.

This standard specifies the determination of mechanical bending radius for short-term applications of light guide cables.

NOTE The terms "elements" and "components" are used synonymously.
