Diese Norm gilt für die Messung faseroptischer Elemente und Produkte zur Bild- und Datenübertragung (Strecken bis 100 m) und Leitung von Licht sowie optischer Strahlung aus dem nahen infraroten und ultravioletten Spektralbereich.
Sie gilt nicht für faseroptische Elemente und Produkte, die zur Nachrichten- und Datenübertragung über Strecken > 100 m vorgesehen sind.
Zweck dieser Norm ist die Festlegung eines einheitlichen Verfahrens zur Bestimmung der Rundheit und Konzentrizität von Lichtleitfasern.
