Track – Performance, Design and Configuration

The standard covers:
a) principles for new designs of track components and configurations;
b) design of layouts;
c) requirements for the use of current standard designs of track components and configurations;
d) requirements for the following track support features: ballast, shingle, formation, sand blankets (and equivalents), geosynthetics, second-stage concrete, transition slabs and drainage systems.
The requirements in this standard apply to the upgrading and renewal of existing track only to the extent reasonably practicable.
Where it is mandatory that any of the supporting information in Section 5 of this standard is to be applied, the appropriate requirement is set in Section 3.
The purpose of this standard is to identify the performance, design and configuration requirements for new track components, configurations, layouts and track bed.
