This Standard specifies the marking, characteristics and test methods of stationary nickel-cadmium rechargeable single cells for use in electric telecommunication, electric machinery and apparatus, emergency power supply, etc. (hereafter referred to as "rechargeable cells").

Vented nickel-cadmium prismatic rechargeable single cells specified in the corresponding International Standard shall be defined in the text of this Standard. Catalytic-plug sealed nickel-cadmium rechargeable cells not specified in the corresponding International Standard shall be defined in Annex JA of this Standard.

NOTE: The International Standard corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows.

IEC 600623:2001 Secondary cells and batteries containing alkaline or other non-acid electrolytes-Vented nickel-cadmium prismatic rechargeable single cells (MOD)

In addition, symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD, (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/IEC Guide 21-1
