a) This Defence Standard 22-94 specifies the details for the materials, manufacture, testing, packing and in-service maintenance of 64 mm bore and 153 mm bore reinforced synthetic rubber hoses and hose assemblies, for Replenishment at Sea (RAS) as follows:

1) Type 1: 64 mm bore hose assembly for abeam RAS of potable water;

2) Type 2: 64 mm bore hose assembly for abeam RAS of Lubricating Oils Type OM 100 (Def Stan 91-25), OEP 80 (Def Stan 91-74), OMD 113 (Def Stan 91-22), Dieso Fuel F76 (DFM & MGO) (Def Stan 91-4) and Avcat F44 (JP5) (Def Stan 91-86);

3) Type 3: 153 mm bore hose assembly for abeam RAS of Dieso Fuel F76 (DFM & MGO) (Def Stan 91-4) and Avcat F44 (JP5) (Def Stan 91-86);

4) Type 4: 153 mm bore hose assembly for astern RAS (Lay on Deck) of Dieso Fuel F76 (DFM & MGO) (Def Stan 91-4);

5) Type 5: 153 mm bore wire reinforced hard-wall hose shall be used to connect between the probe receiver and the deck fitting (see note). The hose assembly shall also be used as the outboard hose on the abeam rig for RAS. The hose shall be suitable for the transfer of Dieso Fuel F76 (DFM & MGO) (Def Stan 91-4) and Avcat F44 (JP5) (Def Stan 91-86);

Note: When a more flexible hose is required to be fitted between the probe receiver and the deck fitting the hose specified at Clause 1.a.6 may be used.

6) Type 6: 153 mm bore soft-wall hose shall only be used to connect between the probe receiver and deck fitting. The hose shall be suitable for the transfer of Dieso Fuel F76 (DFM & MGO) (Def Stan 91-4) and Avcat F44 (JP5) (Def Stan 91-86);

7) Type 7: 153 mm bore reel-able astern hose for RAS with Dieso Fuel F76 (DFM & MGO) (Def Stan 91-4) from RFA FORT VICTORIA, RFA WAVE KNIGHT and RFA WAVE RULER using the astern reel method.

Note: The 153 mm bore reel-able astern hose assembly shall be fitted to a Hudson Reel. The hose shall lay flat when coiled on the reel. An outboard 4.5m Length hose assembly (see Clause 1.a.4) shall be a continuous unspliced 153 mm bore refuelling hose assembly that connects to the reel-able hose in accordance with the requirements of Def Stan 07-279.

b) This Standard also includes production tests and inspections, identification and packing.

c) The hoses shall have an overall life of 10 years from date of manufacture, of which a maximum of 8 years is allowed for working life.

d) The working pressure of hoses and hose assemblies shall be 10 bar. The hoses shall not be used for suction purposes.

e) The 64 mm hose assemblies shall be used in conjunction within the RAS rig configuration for 153 mm hoses. It is not designed to be used on its own without support from the other hoses in the rig.
