Purpose and Scope
The purpose of this document is to provide ergonomics support for the development of the cab environment of new rolling stock.
Many of the requirements, current issues and possible improvements are outputs of the assessments associated with the „Human Factors in Cab Design‟ analysis commissioned by London Underground (LU) and undertaken by Human Engineering Ltd (HEL). Further detailed requirements and recommendations are given from various sources based on ergonomics best practice.
The recommendations have been grouped into a series of sections broadly based upon the key systems and equipment within the cab.
The document is not intended as the definitive guide to all human factors issues associated with cab design, but is intended to provide a series of pragmatic requirements and recommendations that will assist designers in developing future train cabs.
