This specification applies to all flatbottom switches in Railtrack-owned permanent way (limits on the applicability of weld repair are set out in section 3).
The weld repair techniques covered are manual metal arc (MMA) and semi-automatic welding (SAW).
PURPOSE
This specification defines the methods to be used when switch weld repairs are carried out, and the permissible limits of weld repairs to sidewear and damage for specific rail steels and switch types.
