scope:

This specification applies to all track ballast for use in running lines owned by Railtrack except for ballast directly returned to the track by a ballast cleaning machine. This specification also applies to aggregates used in conjunction with a stoneblowing machine.

PURPOSE

This specification gives the requirements for the procurement of track ballast in Appendix A. The requirements of Stoneblower aggregate are given in Appendix B. Appendix C gives the requirements for compliance tests, and recommendations for quality assurance testing. Appendix D gives the requirements for recycled ballast for use in Category 5 and 6 lines. Appendix E gives the requirements for ballast from 1st April 2005 onwards (or when ballast supply contracts are retendered - whichever is sooner).
