This specification applies to the movement of steam locomotives whether in full or light steam over Railtrack controlled infrastructure.

Purpose

This Specification has been created to assist Train Operators that operate Steam Powered Traction identify the risks arising from steam train operation on Railtrack controlled infrastructure and to ensure that the Train Operator has adequate controls in place to reduce those risks, to as low as reasonably practicable.

It should be read in association with Railtrack Line Standard RT/D/S/009 Control Of the Risks Arising from Steam Train Operation.
