This Standard provides the requirements for control and selection of materials based on their fire characteristics. It specifies the aims and procedures intended to ensure that only fire safe and authorised materials are fitted in ships and submarines.
This Standard and associated Annexes are applicable to submarines and to ships and hence both ships and submarines are referred to throughout this Standard. Additionally, there are submarine specific requirements referenced in the equivalent submarine Annex B.
The tests and acceptance criteria contained at Clause 10, relate only to the tests undertaken to assess the fire characteristics of materials. Other tests, mechanical and chemical, may also be required to fully assess the suitability of a material against a stated standard. The requirements of BR1326 Chapter 6 may also be applicable, particularly for materials fitted in closed boat conditions (e.g. submarines).
