Scope.
This specification governs the performance requirements to be used for qualification of coatings as sealers over anodized magnesium substrates. The sealer coating is lead and chromate free and meets the air pollution requirements for solvent emissions at 3.5 lbs/gal (420 g/l) maximum as packaged for types I and II and 1.00 lbs/gal (120 g/l) maximum as packaged for type III. The sealer coatings are free of Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs) and are to be used over anodizing conforming to MIL-DTL-32459. The sealer coatings are compatible with the epoxy primers and topcoats that are used in the Chemical Agent Resistant Coating (CARC) System.
