This document provides methods and procedures for test laboratories to characterize the photometric, radiometric, colorimetric, and electrical quantities of AC LEDs and AC LED modules with the thermal condition referring to a specified junction temperature.

The report covers operational conditions, measurement procedures, and requirements of measurement equipment for characterizing AC LEDs. It covers measurements under single AC cycle operation as well as continuous AC operation of AC LEDs that are intended to be driven by an AC mains supply.

The report does not cover those methods and procedures that are used for measurement of AC LEDs under a DC operation. Such methods and procedures are described in the publications CIE 225:2017 (CIE 2017a) and CIE 226:2017 (CIE 2017b).

The report does not cover either AC-driven LED lamps, LED light engines, and LED luminaires; and it also does not cover the measurements of AC LEDs in a manufacturer's production control.

Furthermore, the report does not apply to LED arrays and LED modules that comprise multiple dies or packages, and where a single forward current is not accessible to characterize an average junction temperature. Such products are within the scope of the Technical Report CIE 235:2019 "Optical Measurement of LED Modules and Light Engines" (CIE 2019b).
