This specification applies to new Escalators and therefore with regard to renewal or refurbishment works, the same apply within context to the overall work content of the required renewal/refurbishment works. This document provides:

1. performance and selection requirements for escalator equipment;

2. a minimum standard of workmanship and construction;

3. continuity of design to limit maintenance variations to a practicable minimum, irrespective of the provider;

4. a focus on a whole-life business model;

5. a recognition and practicable mitigation against the use of proprietary equipment;

6. a framework for ensuring compliance and therefore minimising onward liabilities.

This document applies to all engaged in activities connected to any aspect of the Escalator life cycle.

Purpose

The purpose of this specification is to provide a recognised methodology and standardised approach for the installation of new lifts or refurbishing existing escalators and/or replacement of life expired lifts.

This specification will mitigate short term value engineered or proprietary lift equipment being used and maximise capital investment whilst minimizing maintenance liabilities.
