This document states the requirements for each of the track gauges used for inspection of plain line track and switches and crossings

This standard applies to the manufacture of all Network Rail approved track gauges. Specific calibration requirements are found in NR/L2/RMVP/0172.

Gauges included in this standard are: 

• Basic Track Gauge

• Track Inspection Gauge

• Layout Inspection Gauge

• Field face to Field face gauge

• S&C Confirmation gauge

• Track Inspection Gauge for raised check chairs

• Protractor Gauge (Insulated & Non-Insulated)

• Switchwear Gauge 1 & 2

• Switch Radius Gauge

• Plastic Step Gauge

• Steel Step Gauge (used with NR4 Sidewear Gauge)

• S&C Maintenance Gauge

• Feeler Gauge

Purpose

This standard facilitates consistent and quality manufacture of track gauges which allows for accurate recording of elements of the track system so that any identified corrective maintenance work can be planned and actioned accordingly.
