This Guidance Note sets out how to demonstrate compatibility with axle counters systems installed on the a.c. and d.c. electrified railway on Network Rail managed infrastructure.

The list of approved axle counters and a brief explanation of their individual operation is in Appendix B.

It does not apply to any other types of train detection systems.

Purpose

This Guidance Note aids safe and reliable rolling stock introduction by:

a) defining how interference from electric traction systems can enter axle counter systems; and

b) providing a methodology for demonstration of compatibility.
