This guidance applies to station staff in the very extreme circumstance of a hazardous material being released within a station, with the intention of causing mass casualties (see Section 3), and also the response to the release of CS gas, MACE or pepper spray (see Section 4).

It does not apply to reports of:

• A single person collapsing on a station as a result of a medical issue, or

• An attack on an individual utilising a corrosive substance such as an acid or alkali.

Purpose

This guidance is intended to help station staff take the safest action for themselves and customers in the event of a hazardous material release or chemical attack within a London Underground station.
