Purpose.

This Instruction establishes the safety review and certification process for military specific directed energy systems regardless of the intended use of the system. References are incorporated throughout this Instruction. If the version cited is out of date or obsolete, the current version is administratively approved and incorporated into this Instruction. Note: With respect to medical activities within the Air Force, the Defense Health Agency, a combat support agency, will be responsible for administration and management in the upcoming years pursuant to recent National Defense Authorization Acts. The details of the scope of these responsibilities are still being worked and finalized and may impact Air Force Surgeon General and 711 HPW missions.
