EEMUA - PUB NO 227
Management of ageing electrical assets
|Publication Date:||1 April 2021|
This publication is focused on six types of electrical equipment that the EEMUA Electrical Committee prioritised as those where additional guidance would be most useful, either due to a lack of other guidance or an increase in incidents related to ageing asset issues.
Each chapter (equipment type) is purposely formatted in a similar way to better enable the reader to navigate this publication, with the expectation that it will be repeatedly referred to over time.
EEMUA Publication 227 aims to provide a coherent, proactive system for managing certain ageing electrical assets. Collating users' existing knowledge in an anonymous manner will help overcome the difficulties often faced in accessing or determining equipment failure rates.
The caveat however, is that there is no guarantee that contributing users will have experienced all of the environmental or manufactured possibilities which could significantly impact upon the validity of any conclusions drawn.
At the very least, this publication will provide useful reference points for others to measure their performance against and will hopefully be a useful tool in defending good practice to the regulator.
The hope is that this guidance, by helping engineers to better predict "end of life", will also help reduce the number of catastrophic failures, enable engineers to take a more proactive approach and generally improve awareness within industry of the breadth of issues associated with managing ageing electrical assets.
