scope:
This standard describes the requirements for setting up and maintaining a CM System for In-Service and new-build submarines that will ensure coherency of In-Service support derived from CM data.
The basic requirements for effective CM is to understand and record what comprises the product in terms of physical and functional attributes to a level that enables the assurance that operation, support and disposal of that product is delivered in a safe, effective and economical manner.
This standard applies to submarine structure, systems and equipment for which In-service Submarines is the Platform Duty Holder. It does not apply to Strategic Weapons System or Strategic Weapon Support Systems, Tactical Weapons, Nuclear Steam Raising Plant (primary). Trafalgar, Vanguard and Astute procedures are also included where there is a substantial difference in approach. These will be identified by separate headings.
This standard defines the requirements for maintaining the configuration baseline, known as the Ship Fit Definition (SFD) for those platforms maintained on the SDA's in-service Master Record Database (MRDB), known as the Submarine Definition Database (SDD). The product in the context of this standard is the platform comprising a collection of configurations brought together to establish a collective configuration of the platform as a whole.
This standard does not detail all policies or processes that are in place for ensuring effective CM for in-service submarines. More detailed documentation describing the various activities and policies are contained in documents owned and maintained by the Authority.
