scope:

This Defence Standard (Def Stan) gives details of small electrical fittings and components in common use for electrical power distribution and allied systems in Surface Ships and Submarines. This list includes switches, plugs and sockets, noise makers, lights - indicating, Residual Current Device (RCD) and junction boxes.

The items listed are shown as 'Current', and 'Obsolescent', 'Historic' and 'Inactive' and selection for use is to be made in accordance with the Definitions given in Section 3 of this document.

The list is not comprehensive and may not include some fittings found in older ships.

This Def Stan applies to new design Surface Ships and Submarines, also alterations and additions or refitting of existing vessels.

This Def Stan applies to equipment sponsored by Defence Equipment & Support - Ships Support - Marine Systems Support and supplied by either the Ministry of Defence or the Contractor.

This Def Stan has been written and is to be used taking into account the policy stipulated in DSA02-DMR-MOD (This document now supersedes Joint Services Publication (JSP) 430 Part 1 & 2).
