This NES gives details of small electrical fittings and components in common use for electrical power distribution and allied systems in Surface Ships and Submarines. This list includes switches, plugs and sockets, noise makers, lights - indicating, residual current device (RCD) and junction boxes. The items listed are shown as 'current' and 'obsolescent' and selection for use is to be made in accordance with the definitions given in Section 3. The list is not comprehensive and may not include some fittings found in older ships.

This NES applies to new design Surface Ships and Submarines, also alterations and additions or refitting of existing vessels.

This NES applies to equipment sponsored by the Procurement Executive, Ministry of Defence and supplied by either the Ministry of Defence or the Contractor.
