Matched impedance splices covered by this specification are for use in making environmentally protected permanent joints on MIL-DTL-17 coaxial cables. The matched impedance splice is military unique because it is required to match the impedance of MIL-DTL-17 coaxial cables to reduce insertion loss and maintain signal integrity. In addition, the matched impedance splice must work in the military aircraft operating environment, which requires environment resistance and the ability to operate in a high electromagnetic interference, high shock, high vibration, high and low temperature and high corrosion environment. A commercial substitute is not available.
