Annex EA outlines the application of this Standard for equipment and transmission systems using optical radiation in locations using the Division system of classification.

All luminaires (fixed, portable, or transportable), hand lights, and cap lights with continuous divergent light sources that are intended to be supplied by mains (with or without galvanic isolation) or powered by batteries (for all EPLs).

The requirements of the IEC 60079 series of Standards cover protection with respect to explosion hazard only. The CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60079 series of Standards (based on the adoption of corresponding IEC Standards) is to be used in conjunction with other applicable Standards containing the appropriate electrical safety requirements for general use equipment.
