This standard applies to any shingle or roof tile manufactured for use in steep slope roof systems. Testing includes wind resistance, interior and exterior fire resistance, and impact resistance.

Steep slope roofing is defined as a roof slope with an incline of > 2 units per 12 units (9.5°).

Purpose

This standard states testing and certification requirements for Class 1 steep slope roof covers. Steep slope roof covers are manufactured in various forms of shingles or tiles.

Testing and certification criteria may include, but are not limited to, performance requirements, marking requirements, examination of manufacturing facility(ies), audit of quality assurance procedures, and a follow-up program.
