This document specifies the general requirements and test methods for portable and mobile appliances which use vaporized LP Gas as a fuel. The gas pressure at the injector orifice may be regulated or at vapour pressure.

This document applies where LP Gas is supplied to the appliance -

(a) from a separate non-refillable gas container, conforming to EN 417, UL 147A/B, DOT 39 LP (up to 2 L water capacity) or equivalent, at the vapour pressure to the inlet of the appliance;

(b) from a separate gas container, conforming to AS 2030.1 (or equivalent), connected directly or by flexible hose assembly; or

(c) from an integral gas supply with gas storage in excess of 50 mL water capacity.

Additional specific requirements are specified for the following appliances types:

(i) Cooking appliances (hotplates, ovens, grills, barbecues).

(ii) Small radiant heating appliances (heaters) designed for outdoor use.

(iii) Gas lights designed for outdoor use.

(iv) Portable water heaters designed for outdoor use.

(v) Hand-held heating tools.

This document excludes the following:

(A) Appliances intended for connections to a flue for the discharge of combustion products.

(B) Appliances intended for connection to fixed piping systems for gas and/or water supply.

(C) Appliances having an integral gas supply of 50 mL or less water capacity.

NOTE 1 These appliances are subject to statutory requirements.

(D) Gas refrigerators.

(E) Appliances intended for connections to mains electrical supply.

(F) Appliances incorporating an enclosed cartridge and are intended for commercial use.

(G) Appliances using fan assisted combustion systems.

NOTE 2 Requirements for storage and handling of LP Gas indoors and outdoors are specified in AS/NZS 1596.

NOTE 3 Requirements for gas cylinders are specified in AS 2030 (series).

NOTE 4 Requirements for installed cooking appliances designed to operate with regulated inlet pressure are specified in AS/NZS 5263.1.1.

NOTE 5 Requirements for installed water heaters designed to operate with regulated inlet pressure are specified in AS/NZS 5263.1.2.

NOTE 6 Requirements for installed space heaters designed to operate with regulated inlet pressure are specified in AS/NZS 5263.1.3.

NOTE 7 Requirements for gas refrigerators are specified in AS/NZS 5263.1.5.

NOTE 8 Requirements for outdoor cooking appliances not within the scope of this document that are designed to operate with regulated inlet pressure are specified in AS/NZS 5263.1.7.

NOTE 9 Statutory and regulatory requirements may be applicable to the product(s) that fall within the scope of this document.
