General

This Standard specifies test methods and performance criteria for determining the heating season coefficients of performance (TCOPHS and GCOPHS) of weatherized and non-weatherized gas-fired package furnaces that might or might not include features that enable the provision of ventilation air and/or air cooling, in addition to space heating. This Standard also includes systems that have the primary function of providing ventilation air and that are capable of heating the ventilation air.

This Standard is intended to provide "cold climate" performance criteria, which represents that of package furnaces used in the colder climates typically found in Canada and other northern locations.

Three-phase application

This Standard applies to package furnaces using a three-phase power supply with input rates less than or equal to 2930 kW (10 000 000 Btu/h).

Single-phase application

This Standard applies to package furnaces using a single-phase power supply with input rates greater than 65.9 kW (225 000 Btu/h).

Dual measurements

The values given in SI units are the units of record for the purposes of this Standard. The values given in parentheses are for information and comparison only.

Terminology

In this Standard, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the Standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the Standard.

Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate explanatory or informative material from the text.

Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements.

Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application.
