Scope and application

Insert ZZ1.1.3 and ZZ1.1.4 after 1.1.2 of AS 1720.1.

Minimum requirements

This standard sets out the minimum requirements that can be used to design structural timber elements and their connections for use in New Zealand.

This standard provides one way of demonstrating compliance with B1 (Structure) of the New Zealand Building Code (NZBC).

Non-specific terms

Provisions within this standard that use non-specific or unquantified terms do not form part of this standard if they are being used to verify compliance with the NZBC.

Provisions with non-specific and unquantified terms cannot be part of an NZBC verification method. Such terms include those requiring special studies, rational analysis, engineering judgement, or tests that are 'suitable' or 'appropriate'. These and provisions with other similar terms would be an alternative solution when demonstrating compliance with the NZBC
