This Code of Practice is applicable to all electric points heating installations whether they be on non-electrified, 25 kV AC electrified, 1500 V DC electrified, 3rd rail DC electrified or 4th rail DC electrified lines.

The principles of this Code of Practice affect the design and installation criteria of the complete electric points heating system. The standard does not include installation or commissioning.

Purpose

This Code of Practice states the best practice for the design, layout, installation and commissioning requirements of generic types of electric points heating systems.

Detailed requirements of the points heating components and sub-systems are contained in Railtrack Company Standard RT/E/S/40045 Electric Point Heating which should be read in conjunction with this Code of Practice.
