This product specification applies to all products to be used for cable troughing on Network Rail's infrastructure external to building and lineside equipment accommodation. The requirements for cables and other services to be enclosed in service routes, protective backfill and other protections to buried services are outside the scope of this document.

Typically cable troughing will be installed at ground level adjacent to the operational railway, but where appropriate, may be installed on supports to negotiate obstructions.

Purpose

The purpose of this document is to provide a performance specification for cable troughing products. This specification recognises that apart from the traditional reinforced concrete troughing, troughing can be made from a wide range of materials.
