This standard applies to forecasting, planning and the operational management of the following weather-related hazards:
• flooding/high seas/scour/heavy rain
• high wind speeds
• railhead contamination due to leaf or sand/adhesion modifier application (includes low rail adhesion and the non-operation of track circuits)
• extremes of temperature
• thunderstorms/lightn
• fog/mist/low level cloud cover
• snow/hail/ice/frost,
Purpose
To mandate how Network Rail will manage the operational risks arising from adverse and extreme weather, including the use of weather forecast information, to give adequate preparation for such events.
This standard makes reference to other standards on engineering led issues relating to the impact of weather upon the operational railway infrastructure.
