scope:
PURPOSE.
This Instruction:
a. Establishes policy and assigns responsibilities for SSN use reduction in the Department of Defense in accordance with the authority in DoD Directive 5148.11 and the September 1, 2021 Deputy Secretary of Defense memorandum (References (a) and (b)).
b. Establishes a DoD SSN Use Reduction Plan.
c. Incorporates and cancels Directive-Type Memorandum 07-015 (Reference (c)).
d. Establishes policy requirements for DoD mailings in accordance with section 2 of Public Law 115-59, also known as "the Social Security Number Fraud Prevention Act of 2017" (Reference (n)).
