Purpose/Material Description.
This standard covers the properties of heat stabilized, long Glass Fiber (GF) reinforced Polypropylene (PP). These resins may be impact modified and/or Ultraviolet (UV) stabilized (Black colors only). It covers injection molding types for manufacturing of technical parts requiring high structural stiffness.
Applicability.
Typical applications include the following: floor console, instrument panel carriers, battery covers, as well as interior visible Molded-in-Color (MIC) components requiring high structural stiffness.
Remarks.
The classification into groups is according to the different ranges of glass fiber content.
Code letters and Class at the end of the callout indicate the following:
• E - Impact Modified
• Class-U - Ultraviolet Light Stabilized (black colors only). If no Class-U is noted, the material is not UV stabilized and not appropriate for MIC applications
Appendix A outlines the protocol for blending at the press with long-glass fiber concentrated masterbatch.
